Oasis - The Importance of being Idle
The importance of being idle is an alternative rock song written and sung by Noel Gallagher, this was a number one single in 2005. This music video is set like a 1960's kitchen sink drama. The set of the video is the build up to a funeral in a northen town. The video is based on the film and play 'Billy Liar', with actor Rhys Ifans playing Billy. Noel and Liam Gallagher are also playing parts in the video, they play Shadrack and Duxbury, the people who own the funeral parlour where Billy works. The other 3 members of the band Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey also make an apperance as lazy workers playing cards in the undertaker's office (1.39), helping to set the theme of laziness in the video. The way that the undertakers are parading around the coffin adds drama to the video and also makes it seem less realistic.
Media Representations
In this video, it is not only Oasis that are being represented, but only actor Rhys Ifans. In this video Rhys Ifans is playing Billy Liar, who is being represented as the person whos funeral it is. Noel and Liam Gallagher are being represented as the people who own the funeral parlour. They are all being represented by Big Brother Recordings
