Second textual analysis of album cover
Loud is the fifth studio album by Rihanna, released November 12th 2010. Media Representations I think that on this album cover Rihanna is being presented as 'sexy' and maybe quite dangerous, this is represented from the red lips and the red hair. Also the way that Rihanna is not smiling and her mouth is slightly open also portrays sexuality from the image. I think that you are able to tell just from the album cover that this is an Rnb album, as one major convention of the Rnb scene is sexuality. As this is a close up of Rihanna's face this tells us immediately that the album is all about her, this may suggest that the album is very independent. As the main colour of the image on this album cover is red, this suggests that the songs on the album may be about love, sex and danger. As I think these are the things the colour red mainly represents. Media Languages and Forms As this is quite a simple album cover, I think that Rihanna is already very well known, so the album cover is easily recognisable to most people, so it does not need to be very detailed. Also I have noticed that the album cover does not actually state Rihanna's name, showing that it will be easily recognised. I think that because the main image on the album cover is just Rihanna, this shows that she is very independant and possibly suggests that she writes her own music and takes control of her career. Genre The genre of this album is R&B, dance and pop. After researching these music genres, I have found that many of the album covers for these types of album covers consist of a kind of sexual themed main image, making the artist look sexy and powerful on the cover. Media Institutions Rihanna belongs to the record label 'Def Jam' which is owned by the major record label 'Universal Music Group'. Def Jam Recordings was founded in 1984 by Rick Rubin in New York City. Media Values & Ideology
